UMAGE has been in The Collection by Mr. from the beginning. Lunettes can be found. But what does Umage stand for and how do they deal with responsible design of nice interior items? I want to share that with you through this blog.
We'll start at the beginning; UMAGE is a Danish word that means 'to make an effort', and that is what UMAGE wants to do every day.
UMAGE combines beautiful Danish design, affordability, high-quality materials and genuine care for the environment. The brand combines aesthetics, simplicity and functionality with thoughtful craftsmanship and care for the environment. The result is beautiful designs with a sustainable edge. The designs are flat-packed to optimize global logistics and make the interior items more accessible and affordable. In doing so, the brand minimizes the carbon footprint on our planet and maximizes their ethical commitment to environmental responsibility.
UMAGE also makes extra efforts for sustainability:
They recognize that the sale of furniture and lighting can never be 100% sustainable, but they do want to make an extra effort for the environment. The brand is committed to being sensible leaders in environmental responsibility. Quote: “When we deliver timeless, durable and functional quality designs, we know nature will prevail, just like UMAGE.” The brand is constantly improving its designs and trying to do even better for the environment, with new sustainable materials, more functionality and by making the flat-packed products even smaller, to take care of you and the planet.
In addition to the efforts regarding sustainability and transport, what are UMAGE's efforts that we as customers can help with and that can also be felt in the environment. UMAGE has a collaboration with the NGO One Tree Planted for this purpose. Every time a wooden design is sold, a tree is planted. Trees help purify the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat for more than 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Forests employ more than 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. Fortunately, a mature tree can absorb an average of 22 pounds of carbon dioxide per year, making cities a healthier and safer place to live. In 2021, this beautiful collaboration planted 20,093 trees, based on your love for UMAGE.
Multifunctional and flexible
Why a table lamp or a side table and not also a USB or wireless charger? Why not make room for storage where the space is empty anyway? UMAGE not only answers these questions, but makes them possible. One of the most important aspects of the furniture and lighting designs at UMAGE is multiple functions and flexibility. Designing with more than one function in mind is a sustainable way of thinking because it reduces the number of products you need to purchase to get a complete setup for your space.
When you purchase an item from UMAGE, it comes in compact packaging, some even with a nice box that you can later reuse as gift packaging or to store some things at home.
Foam and plastic in the packaging have been replaced with eco-friendly materials to minimize plastic waste when purchasing a UMAGE design. So not only are the items flat-packed to optimize global logistics and carbon footprint, but it also ensures that you don't have to throw away tons of packaging material and that the packaging you retain can be recycled and used for something new.
Replaceable and recyclable
Creating sustainable designs is an essential part of the UMAGE brand. To extend the life of the design, most parts of the furniture and lamps at UMAGE are replaceable. If a part breaks or is worn out, you don't have to go out and replace an entire piece of furniture or lamp - you can just replace the individual parts. When your UMAGE design has had a full life, it can be separated into key elements for recycling.
A cool fact that is actually also a style tip.
Just imagine: Two years have passed and you suddenly want a different color on your armchair, then simply change the upholstery in a few minutes. The same applies to our dining room chairs, cabinets and other responsible designs. This means you can breathe new life into the design and your interior without buying a whole new piece of furniture, saving the world's resources.
This is possible, for example, with the entire Audacious collection, The Reader collection, A Conversation Piece collection and the Treasures cabinets.
In 2022, the Horizons Textile was released by Umage. This is 100% recycled textile. The Horizons textiles are recycled from plastic waste and reused for a new purpose in the design of comfortable chairs and beautiful cabinets at UMAGE. The textile is certified with Global Recycled Standard and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. The recycled textiles are available for UMAGE's The Reader, A Conversation Piece, Time Flies, Treasures and Audacious collections.
UMAGE ensures that all goose feathers used for the Eos Feather Lamp collection are 100% sustainably sourced from agricultural land to end user. All feathers are licensed with an RDS certification, guaranteeing the welfare of the animals in our production.
Nordic Swan Ecolabel
The Dunes collection from Sørensen Leather is part of the permanent upholstery collection for the UMAGE lounge chairs and footstools. The Dunes collection has received the Nordic Swan Ecolabel: a highly respected certification confirming that it meets their strict environmental, energy and resource requirements.
In short, Umage will not immediately disappear from The Collection by Mr. Lunettes. With UMAGE you buy a product that you will enjoy for years to come.
